OUT WITH THE OLD, IN WITH THE NEW HOMECOMING QUEEN

By Jeannie Lieberman

The community house was packed, the buzz decibel high and excited as the cherished ritual, the election of a new Homecoming Queen , was once again reenacted-

APCG President Ceejay Rosen greeted the crowd: "Hello Cherry Grove, I don't remember a crowd like this at a charitable event ...an honor to our organization which has been going strong since 1948".  Ceejay ran down a list of Arts Projects events this summer culminating with the Annual Season's End Ball, its theme "Broke Back Cherry Grove"..adding "the lesbians will be glad 'cause they can wear their jeans". Mention of Harold Seeley's archives drew rousing appreciative applause.

Then Mmes of Ceremonies, Bella & Philomena, took over as well they can... and do.

and the winner is... The Queen and Ladies in Wanting

Message from the New Queen CocoLove: SPREAD IT  AROUND (LOVE I hope)

The Old (no) Outgoing Queen Ivana Cocktail "I'd run again but Donna Piranha would kill me!"

Grove's Mistress of Ceremonies Emeritus - nobody does it better! (does she ever take a bad picture? Not)

Urban Sprawl...back from a year of fashion shows, Tall 'n terrif with Antoinette dome atop her own gorgeous hair-"I'm much to old to run - I'm strollin'

Nikka - move over Rene Zelwegger - this one's bigger and better

Margo the Disciplinarian -watch out!

Lola Galore - big, blond and bountiful!

Lola's daughter, Venus Sans Penus - trying to eclipse tradition breaking Queen Joan Van Ness???

And bringing up the rear -Tom, Mr Leather 2006 - nice to have a man around... the    stage!

Note: Contestant Gimmi Hoffa resisted being photographed not to violate his witness protection program

Philomena was faster than the click of a camera and a raucous drag queen spilled a drink on my notes...it was a memorable evening!
