Lorraine with Carmen and her mother's camera, a significant influence in her professional career

GORGEOUS PICTURES IN A PHOTO FINISH

                                                             by Sherri Rase

Lorraine Michels has been documenting the goings on in Cherry Grove for some time.  From her Cherry Grove Fire Fighters calendar, to her most welcome candids and cast shots for the productions at the Arts Project, she has documented many great moments of our lives in the Grove.  On September 7 and 8, Just Lorraine managed to thrill us again.

Upon entry, you pause - is that Betty Grable in the doorway - nope, Just Lorraine!  Camera and all!

Once inside, the solo show at the Cherry Grove Community House featured the crown jewels in Lorraine's body of work from her globetrotting travels.  Prominent among the dramatically shown pieces, she featured her big cat photos from a trip to Africa, classic pictures from her Maine collection and even photos as recent as the week before - brand new portraits of legends from "Legends II", the latest Arts Project of Cherry Grove production celebrating the talent of our Homecoming Queens.  Resplendent in red, Scarlett Oh! glowed and Philomena looked very - uh - French!

Most amazing was the pavilion - black burlap dramatically draped over art show flats, the first photo on entry was a breathtaking view of a simple piece of driftwood, printed on canvas.  The process made the subtle colors pop and the spotlighting was so artfully done, it was like a vision - a dream where the image lingers after you wake.

An artistic and commercial success, Just Lorraine's solo show was a must-see!  Thanks for those memories!
