KIDS KONTENDERS IN KISMET'S KAYE KRAZY DOUBLES

                  Poster Girls!

It was a “feel good” tournament, best in years, probably because it was multigenerational: kids long excluded were major players now – “there should be two tournaments” Tom L. said” One for those under 20, the other for those over 70”. Tom actually had to bow out so that his kids could play. It was a long way from the tourney's raucous beginnings when group houses used to support their housemates , bringing drinks to the courts while they wisecracked through the matches. And the people in Outback (the house adjacent to the courts) hated tennis so they used to periodically throw down tennis balls during the sets.

Artie G gave advice from all those winter tennis lessons (one man's good shot is his opponent's weakness) and even made a housecall to Gary, one of his partners, to discuss strategy for their next match. Pinnie of Xanadu called out “where's the empire?” “Its umpire- throw this guy out” countered Steve! Nancy, “umping” asked for “your tired old balls”. Alex, the eventual winner, had more relatives and friends there cheering for him – good thing he won – and when they were drinking to his success at home he was calmly sitting in a bench watching the ladies' games. Cool! Casey & Lacey changed clothes a lot between their games. Sam Wood actually stopped working to watch his kids Sam Jr & Gracie. “I have lots of kids, don't even now their names but thankfully only two on the courts”.

Artie G said ”we are invaded by Fair Harbor” as 6 contenders were from there but there was no way I could cop an attitude when Jane said most graciously “we are grateful that Kismet is so inclusive”. She won this year, playing with Gracie Wood and her husband Dean won last year playing with Sam Wood.

Good feelings! Good neighbors! Good friends! Everyone toasted event organizer Joey Barbosa

At conclusion – and Joey, prone to speeches, exulted “I have been runner up so many times – it feels good to win”.
