CHERRY GROVE

By Jason Michaels

Welcome to an occasional column about comings and goings on in Cherry Grove.

This past Saturday night another exceptional dinner party was held by that Domestic Diva, Connie Francis of Grove Manor.  A major surprise was the presence of Jeanne Lieberman in the seat usually reserved for Rose Levine.  In the past Rose and her barely awake consort Michael were frequent guests of Ms. Francis, but earlier this season Rose was asked to leave and never come back.  Isn't it ironic that Rose's place has been filled by the person she assaulted at the beginning of the season?

And speaking of poor Rose, what a rocky season she's been having!  After a shaky performance at the PAWS benefit earlier this year, she was back in fine form over July 4th weekend but followed that with dismal attendance at her Ice Palace show (18 people is the official count).  Then there were the mysterious "Shame, shame, shame" posters of her all over town after her psychotic melt down at the Community Awards.  And this past Saturday night, at Johnny Poole's prostrate cancer benefit, she was sabotaged by an unruly microphone.  No wonder she's taken to screaming at people in public.

Congratulations to Richard LaFrance and The Island Repertory Theatre for a very successful fundraiser at the Bellevedere this weekend.  There was quite a large turnout and many new faces!  Nice to see something bringing new blood into our community.  Keep up the great work!

Billie Ann's Imperial Court revue was minus three celebrity queens - Philomena, Panzi & Rose, two were missed! Kudos to Ivana Cocktail & Donna Piranha who worked hard to fill in. The lip synched show, by celebs  Demi Tasse, Ann Tigue, Craig Hollywood, Ron, Gefil Tufish, Ginger, Frances Xavier, Ariel, Bella, Peter B., Angela Mercy and more eliminated the possibility of live voice trauma that has plagued so many shows this summer. Angelo, glam Martha, and stunning tuxedo-ed volunteers kept the event glamorous.

Congrats to Meryl & Lois, the Tides new owners, who have presented some very high caliber entertainers this summer along with a pleasant atmosphere reflecting their own charming personae.

Rainbow Dreams a great place to browse during intermission. What a trip!
