FAIR HARBOR GETS FESTIVE – Let’m eat cake!!!

Photos by Paul (staff photographer for the night).

A dessert party was held in honor of “The Missing Link” (a.k.a. Norman Schechter) on the occasion of it’s (his) birthday. It made no difference to the revelers that “Links” actual birthday was more than a month away. Around 75 partygoers were treated to an amazing assortment of chocolates and cakes. When I asked our host Bob Jaffe where the desserts were purchased, he replied ‘NOYFB”. I chose to not ask what that stood for. He later credited Diane as the principal schlepper of the pastries.

When asked about the unusual timing for the festivities, Jaffe said “Every day is Norman’s birthday here in Fair Harbor. We just decided to throw this year’s soiree on a date that our beloved guest of honor and his adored mistress Joan could actually attend.”

Party goers came from as far as Ocean Beach and Kismet. In fact one Kismetic was the last to arrive (can you guess- that’s right Bicycle Bill). His reason for being tardy was about not finding a bicycle that was appropriately equipped for the journey past Saltaire Security. Bill said “yeah, can you believe it...not only do they require a flashlight...but it also has to have a working bulb and batteries.”

In attendance were former “Mixed Signals” Duke and Helene; Paula-Jerry-Ira and their bevy of beauties from O.B.; Marty (sans Maxine- who was home waiting for the call from her daughter announcing the arrival of a a grandchild-as of this writing, no grandchild has arrived); Pat Clancy, Laurie and Company; Ro and Marie; Nina (looking fetching) and the rest of her housemates. Artie and Minda brought a delicious tart (and also brought a dessert also). Caryn, Sarah, and the rest brought a crumb cake worthy of Entenmanns's. Neil and Bonnie won prettiest dessert with their fruit cake that would make even the Cherry Grove gang envious. Pat Robbins attended with housemates Judy, Bette, Gail, and Paul (staff photographer for the night). Andy and Delena joined their housemates in a toast to Norman who immediately drank the vodka and then proceeded to eat the cup in which it was served. Jerry took the night off from taking stills. Brother and sis-in-law D.J. and Rose making their final appearance before D.J. Splits for another 2 months of world traveling...when asked where he is going, D.J. Replied...”if it ends in S T A N, I’m going there”.

Even Shelly (normally an early to bed-er came with Stephanie) to “Just break the cycle of non-attendance”. Leo and Joyce were also up way past their bedtime. Marlene came not for dessert but rather to come see if her missing bike would somehow appear. Jaffe has promised Marlene that her bike would be found if he has anything to say about it. He has a vested interest in its’ recovery.

Joe and Gena managed to not dance. Andy and Vickie, after a long day’s work at the Pine Walk Fair also attended. Vickie volunteers to raise funds and awareness for the feral cats to which Jaffe responded...”I have the answer to feral cats...FERAL DOGS!!!”

Tara and her handsome friend found a cozy place on the deck to talk about old times (and they just met). Johannes and Elizabeth were celebrating their new-found liberation from FI Contracting.

A good time was had by all...Olga summed it up well...but no one stayed late enough to hear the end of her summation.

And that is Fair Harbor News-real tough to come by.
