Pruning: Key Element in Gardening

By: Lou Romanzi

Well July has arrived and considering what a rainy June we've had I'm sure
your trees, shrubs, perennials, annuals, vegetables & herbs have enjoyed the
moisture and rewarded you with lush greenery & a colorful showing.

Gardeners must remember this is now the time to prune all these back.  In
order for plant material to flourish you must remove the dead & overgrowth
that drain the nourishment from the plants.

Put away those electric & gas powered hedge trimmers and pull out a good
pair of hand clippers. You must clip off the dead at the joint leaving the
trees, plants & shrubs soft & lacy.

Dead head (remove flowers that have died) annuals and pinch back any
flowers, .vegetables or herbs that have gone to seed.

Water regularly and feed every two weeks.

Remember, if you have excess basil, parsley, oregano  Pasta night is a great time t use them.
