OCEAN BAY PARADISE                           by Robbie

We’re midway down the island, and our Community is comprised of a wonderful mosaic of year-rounders, homeowners, and group shares, many of whom have moved on to become homeowners themselves.  In recent years many young couples with families have bought homes, changing the dynamics somewhat, but this fact is balanced by a hard-core group of friends, single and married, who for many years continue to love the fun times.  So much so that we also get together in NYC to celebrate in the wintertime.

So here’s a little taste of what went on at the “Schooner Re-uner” Christmas gathering on December 6, 2008, and at a 2009 St. Paddy’s Party hosted by Tommy Tinhat and his wife.

On Saturday May 23rd (Memorial Day weekend), the OBP Auxiliary staged their annual Plant Sale.  Popular with local residents, even those from surrounding communities, this fundraiser is a true service to the Community. A vast number of plants and shrubs, including hanging planters, flowers, vegetables and herbs were offered at attractive pricing, competitive with those on the mainland.  Net profits raised from the Sale go towards the upkeep of the Ocean Bay Park Fire Hall and facilities.

This year the start time was moved up from 10:00 am to 9:00 am.

This in no way deterred the anxious customers, who started lining up outside the Fire Hall at around 8:15 am.  By 8:50 am the anticipation was growing, with around 50 people waiting anxiously with their wagons.  As the doors of the Fire House rose, the crowd rushed in to grab their purchases.  Although there were around 15 carts each with five racks filled with flats, hanging planters, etc., the whole lot sold out within 1-1/2 hours.

The crowd starts to gather at 8:15 am

By 8:30 am people can't control their curiosity

Steven J. and Angelo await the start.

When are they going to let us in?

Gorgeous flowers!

"You got what I wanted"

I'm overwhelmed!

Hope there's still some left for me!

Kathryn's glad it's almost over
